Traditional English Ale

- by Oatbarton Brew

Do you want to take a break from searching for 'ye old precious? Well, ask Bilbo! This beer can be found in the deep dark caves in the far end of middle earth (just kidding, it's at Hobbiton). It's classified as a traditional English ale and because of its coffee, vanilla, and chocolate, its colored blackish. Flavor is a little bit on the thick side with a sweet aftertaste. It works pretty good. You could definitely have a sophisticated chill session with a sixer of this no doubt.

So the story behind this beer was we were travelling around the north island of New Zealand late last year (2016) and included in our itinerary was the Hobbiton tour. As exciting (and expensive!) as it was, the tour in all honesty was initially kind of a bust. For that price, you would expect to see some celebrity or at least get some props but turns out most of the films were shot at the studio and Hobbitonis just one big fat lying façade. Just when I had lost hope, Oatbarton to the rescue! To my surprise at the end of the tour was a little Hobbit style party with free drinks! And yes, knowing me, I picked the beer. Worked out well because I had no idea of the rarity of the beer that I was enjoying. This beer unfortunately is only available inside Hobbiton. All in all the tour became quite an adventure thanks to this awesome rare brew. If you get a chance, most definitely must. They also have an amber ale for those who like lighter beers might be worth a try.
